BAPTISM OF THE IMAGINATION
Like many of us, as others who have been transformed by the writings of George MacDonald can attest, I too, like C. S. Lewis, testify to the “baptism of my imagination.” As a pastor, I devoured MacDonald’s sermons, for I found his words displayed like a stroke of paint on canvas. Just as MacDonald describes in Lilith that some dreams, poems, musical phrases, and pictures, “awaken feelings such as one never had before… as with the aroma of an idea,” so too, did the words of MacDonald. So what did I do? I painted. I painted a simple watercolor of this man who has influenced me to paint a sermon regarding the love of God, rather than to write a sermon.
